Google Business Profile: 7 things your business should check today

Your Google profile is the first thing customers see. A practical checklist to help your business show up more, and better, on Google Maps.

Your Google Business Profile (what appears on the right, or in Maps, when people search for your business) is probably your most-viewed shop window. And it’s free. These are the seven things most often forgotten:

1. Opening hours, including bank holidays

Nothing gets worse reviews than turning up to find the shutters down. Keep special hours for bank holidays and time off up to date too.

2. The right category

“Bar” isn’t the same as “Tapas bar” or “Vermouth bar”. Choose the most specific primary category and add secondary ones.

3. Real, recent photos

Of the place, the bar and the food. Photos uploaded by the owner build trust; take them in natural light and without heavy filters.

If you have a website, link to it. If you have a digital menu, add it in the menu section. That way people get their questions answered without leaving Google.

5. Replying to reviews

All of them, including the bad ones. A polite reply to criticism says a lot about a business.

6. Attributes

Outdoor seating, wheelchair accessible, dog friendly, vegan options… These are filters people use when they search.

7. Posting now and then

A new dish, an event, a change in opening hours. Google rewards profiles that stay active.

If you’d rather someone else took care of it, Google profile optimisation is included in all our packages. See what each one includes.
